Since its formation, nearly 30 years ago, the University of Dar es Salaam Academic Staff Assembly has been making significant contributions in different matters of public interest within and outside the country. It has been playing an instrumental role in promoting academia and fundamental academic principles such as academic freedom and freedom of expression; the liberation struggle of African countries and freedom of all other colinised and oppressed countries in the world; the dignity of African people and the decolonisation of their minds; promoting the pan-Africanism agenda; leading critical academic and non-academic discussions on sensitive subjects in the country such as democratisation process, mutlipartism movements, constitutional review, education reforms, elections and developments.
