Dr Chuhila is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of History, College of Humanities at the University of Dar es salaam. He is the current General Secretary of UDASA, the position he is serving for the second term in a row.
Academically, Dr Chuhila holds a PhD in History from the University of Warwick in the UK (2013-2016), Master of Arts in History (2010-2013) and Bachelor of Arts with Education (2005-2008) from the University of Dar es salaam. He teaches theories of history, philosophies and methodologies of history, environmental history, globalization and national interests, research methods, proposal writing, and rural transformation.
In the past five years, Dr Chuhila has worked in two main collaborative researches on rural futures that try to address the questions of rural progress and sustainability despite the changing local and global conditions. His areas of research interest include land use, rural transformations, urban history, environmental history and theory of history. He also supervises students doing Master of Arts in History and PhD who wants to research and write on these areas.
Dr Chuhila also serves as the Deputy General Secretary of a professional body called the Historical Association of Tanzania, a position held from 2018 to the present.
