Dr Ilomo is a Lecturer at the Department of Literature, Communication and Publishing of the Institute of Kiswahili Studies which he represents in the UDASA Executive Committee. He has a PhD in Swahili Literature on Narrative Strategies in Swahili Novels from the University of Dar es Salaam. 

Dr Ilomo has an interest in Swahili Written Literature especially Swahili Novel and Short Stories. He has, over the years, been teaching various undergraduate degree courses such as Swahili Novel, Swahili Drama, Oral Literature, and Short Stories. Apart from teaching undergraduate courses, he has been involved in teaching various programmes of Kiswahili to foreigners as well as in offering translation services to various national and international agencies.
